Kristina Haarberg appointed Executive Director of the Norway-America Association

​

Kristina Haarberg will assume the role of Executive Director of the Norway-America Association (NORAM) on September 1. Haarberg has been with NORAM since 2021, where she has been responsible for the association’s scholarship programs and communications work.

​

Haarberg succeeds Executive Director Hanne K. Aaberg, who will step down from the leadership role on September 1 after 14 years in the position. As Executive Director, Haarberg will have overall responsibility for the association’s operations and continued development.

 

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to lead the Norway-America Association forward. I have lived in the United States myself for four years and have experienced firsthand the impact that spending time abroad can have, both academically and personally. Through my role at NORAM, I have also had the opportunity to see this through the experiences of our scholarship recipients over the past several years. It is highly motivating to lead an organization that can help open these opportunities to more people, while also strengthening the ties between Norway and the United States,” says Haarberg.

 “Kristina knows NORAM well and has demonstrated a strong commitment to the association’s mission and work over several years. She has worked closely with our scholarship recipients, partners, and the Norwegian-American academic community, and has played an important role in NORAM’s development in recent years. The Board is very pleased that she has accepted the opportunity to lead the association forward,” says Board Chair Peder Chr. Løvenskiold.

Haarberg holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing Management from BI Norwegian Business School and has experience from the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo.

​

For more than 100 years, the Norway-America Association has worked to strengthen ties between Norway and the United States through academic exchange. Through its longstanding work, NORAM has established a broad network in both countries.

​

“I take on this role with great respect for the work that has been done before me, but also with a strong desire to further develop NORAM. We have a unique position and an extensive network within both academia and civil society in the United States. I want to build on this foundation and make NORAM even better equipped to create new opportunities for Norwegian and American students, while also strengthening the association’s visibility and relevance in the years ahead,” says Haarberg.
