Professional Development Award

This scholarship program is administered in cooperation with The American-Scandinavian Foundation.

This program is for established professionals with a minimum of 3 years work experience, who intend to conduct special research or educational training for further advancement in their field.

The award enables professionals to spend up to 3 months in the U.S. pursuing professional study, training or research.

In the past, fellows have worked on obtaining skills in their field that were uniquely available from an American institution, such as a research technique or training in their field. Projects should be done as part of some type of formal program, or under the guidance of an expert in the field.

The Professional Development Award is not available for artistic residencies without any study/research component; conference trips; internships; etc.

Applicants interested in regular coursework over a semester or more should consider applying for the Graduate and Research Scholarship Program.

Awards are available up to $5,000.

Awards are paid upon arrival in U.S. dollars in accordance with the guidelines of The American-Scandinavian Foundation. Candidates should make sure that they can cover preliminary expenses (travel to the US, first weeks of housing, etc) through other means.

Application Procedure

A complete application includes:

English translations of educational transcripts and diplomas from all university/college studies attended. These can either be originals directly from the institution, or certified true copies.

Curriculum Vitae/Resume in English.

Researchers: letter of invitation from your host institution.

Students: If you have already been admitted to a U.S. university, please include the letter of admission

Three letters of recommendation, written in English. These must be written on institution letterhead, signed, and are to be sent by mail directly to NORAM by recommender. Letters of recommendation sent via fax or e-mail will not be considered.

Proof of payment of Application Fee, NOK 450. Please make the fee payable to account number 7878.05.23025. Mark your payment “Professional Devlopment 2011-12” and be sure to include your full name in the message field.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) invites U.S. colleges and universities to apply for funding to host a visiting lecturer from Norway or Sweden.
